Chapel Friends
Who are Chapel Friends?
Chapel Friends are dedicated volunteers who provide caring ministries to persons in need - irrespective of Chapel membership.
Chapel Friends offer a variety of support services, including but not limited to: telephone calls; get well, birthday, and sympathy cards; visits to Chapel members and non-members who are homebound, hospitalized, or admitted to long-term care facilities and other settings; and transportation — when available — to medical appointments.
Chapel Friends also assist with the development of support groups, as well as educational programs related to health issues, long-term illnesses, death and dying, grief and grieving, life losses, separation and/or divorce, advance directives, disaster preparedness, weekly and monthly review of prayer lists, and the coordination of the prayer shawl ministry.
Shifting Sands, a support group in association with Chapel Friends, offers participants an opportunity to share their feelings and see that they are not alone or isolated. Like all Chapel programs, Shifting Sands is open to Chapel members and non-members alike.
Our Chapel Friends committee members exemplify commitment, dedication, devotion and love. Recipients can attest to our earnest endeavors to assure you of our love, prayers and support for your well-being.
There are many opportunities for you to serve: writing care cards, making supportive phone calls, visiting shut-ins, providing rides to medical appointments, knitting a prayer shawl, joining our Chapel Friends committee, and volunteering on a “as needed” basis. To maintain the confidentiality of this program, prospective Chapel Friends are requested to meet with the Pastoral Care Assistant, MiMi Horwitz, and complete a volunteer application and confidentiality agreement.
